How Geothermal Works

We all know that Baltimore homes are subjected to varying temperatures during the year. Some climates can see the extremities that summer and winter throw at us. There is a dependable source of temperature that you can put to good use; just a few feet underneath the earth's surface. How is that possible?

The sun infuses the Earth's crust with its heat energy. Forty-seven percent of that energy is stored in the ground as heat. WaterFurnace geothermal systems tap this heating potential using an earth loop system; harvesting this free heat for your home. This innovative technology uses the sun's heat that the earth has readily stored to condition your home or office.

Geothermal Heating

In the heating cycle, a WaterFurnance geothermal heat pump employs the earth loop system to draw the heat from the ground. Delivery through a classic duct system, the geothermal system draws heat from the loops and distributes it as warm air. Other choices are available to use that same heating energy to provide hot water heating and radiant floor heat.

Geothermal Cooling

The heating process is reversed in the cooling mode - creating cool, conditioned air all through the home. Instead of extracting heat from the ground, heat is taken from the air in your home and either moved back into the earth loop, or used to preheat the water in your hot water tank.
